I buy quite a bit of fabric from our local JoAnn's. 45min. away from my house. Our Walmart has fabric too but I have never even looked at it. I do buy some fabric on line if I am going to buy a bunch at once. Shipping is $6 but free if you spend $35 or more. Fabrics.com

That's the way I am - I shop by feel for fabric - if it feels right, I buy it, but if it doesn't, I don't. The bad part is that I don't know the "names" of fabric people are talking about. :-)

I get a lot of cone thread from Atlanta which I use wherever possible. The small spools though, I tend to get at Wal-Mart, for $1.94 I can get it and walk out with it and know that it is the "shade" of green that I need.

I am sorry to hear your store is closing. I live in MI, and the store a mile from my house closed and they had a great sale. They opened a new store that is a 30 minute drive away, (all city driving!) So, I can definitely empathize with you.
The Joann's "people" are funny about where they locate. There's only one superstore, and one very small store in the second biggest city in Michigan!
I wish I had been one of the lucky ones that had a new one open a block away. I can't afford the $4 a gallon gas to drive out there the way I would like. Good luck to you.

They are putting in a Joann's in an old Montgomery Wards building here. One half is going to be Joann's and the other half will be a Good will store. And as far as I know they are opening it up in May last I heard. Kind of sad really as there is only one LQS that gets alot of business since Walmart here had cut down on their fabrics. And I bet that Joanns will take most of this LQS business. But I don't think that they will go out of business as they have been in the same spot for the past 37 years that I am aware of and besides they are also a vacuum cleaner dealer. We did have one other LQS, and the woman that owned it, sold it and the woman that bought it, closed it down and moved it to a town 30 miles South. Too sad. But recently I had found 2 LQS that are "sorta close" 30 miles north of me that I will use. As they have the same prices, if not cheaper prices as Joanns does.
