    Yes, I always make my borders bigger than the pattern “suggestion”. That gives me the option of leaving it or reducing the size. I usually keep the larger border. This also is helpful when you square up the quilt. You have ample room to cut a straight edge. :-)

    I always do this and trim after with enough extra fabric to square it up without being left short. Being exact is not my specialty so I need that extra insurance.
