PS Izy - if you get One Block Wonders Encore as well, I think it tells you how do do those groovy hollow blocks like in dunster's quilt - my book doesn't tell you!

Wow, I think it is very beautiful.

The fabric has much white space on it. That’s why the kaleidoscope effect is more subtle.

And to answer to your questions:
I buy my fabrics on line, too. For a medium scale print, I usually buy 2.5 yards in order to get 8 repeats.
At this store www.equilter.com they mention the size of the motifs on a print. Look at this example:
    http://www.equilter.com/cgi-bin/webc...43109079642.ea

The only rule I follow when I buy fabrics for kaleidoscope is to choose a busy print. Buying on line it is sometimes a lottery...

And on the same subject: in order to make kaleidoscope blocks I cut absolute identical strips from fabric then I stack them. It is much easier to match strips instead of large rectangular pieces.
I hope this is helpful for you.

Thank you Geta - I'm going right now to have a look at that site! When i cut the strips for the quilt, I cut them 16" wide which was two repeats for that fabric then stacked them and pinned through the same spot on each one. The trickiest part was cutting the strip along the width of the fabric - I only have a 24" mat!

Dunster I can't stop looking at your quilt - it's more beautiful than the ones in the book! Have you got a piece of the original fabric left that you could post a pic of? it would be fun to see what you started with!

PS - Sorry mods, this thread should have gone in pics - I'll go out right now and lash myself and promise to try harder in future!

here is one of the fabrics I bought for the kaleidoscope quilt. It's christmas-y but once it's all cut up, who will know the difference.

Hi there, I thought I ha seen a company that tell you the repeats in their fabrics. Here is one I use and they are very good with delivery.
