I'm new to paper piecing. I love the accuracy of it. I would like to make my own patterns out of my applique patterns. I have looked in the search area and have not found anything that pertains to this. My questions are:

    1. Do I just make division lines where they seem logical to the design or is there another method?

    2. Do I need to enlarge the design to allow for the 1/4 inch seam allowance?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Thank you. I have many applique patterns and I hope to transfer them to paper piecing.

Someone posted a free computer program to change a pattern into paper piece. You will have to do a search on this site. But I have also been told that EQ6, and EQ7 can print out paperpiece patterns.

I believe Carol Doak has a link on her site that explains how to change a regular pattern into a paper piecing one.

I would quarter or cut the original block up some how into workable sections first.

With applique, you will probably need to subcut these units up too. You will have a lot of little pieces to draw in for the curves. Maybe make extra copies to practice this on

I can't wait to see your quilts done this way :D:D:D

Thanks Amma, I was just thinking about the curves earlier today. the straight lines shouldn't be much of a problem. You are right about the curves though. I'll need to practice. :)

A free program you can download is called Quilt Assistant. I like it.

    http://www.cosman.nl/software_en.html

It also shows how to do curves
