You can use regular paper .... I use 20 lb copy paper, and it works just fine for PPing ... the trick is to have your stitches very short.

When you say distorted .... are you saying that it is not the same size? Or that the lines are not coming out straight? and that the units are wonky? If you're not getting your book/page laying perfectly flat, that will distort the output.

I was just going to say what QuiltE said. You have to press the lid down hard on a book (but don't break the lid!). If it's curved up (toward the spine) you'll get a distorted picture.

I usually make one opy onto plain paper then use that if it is acurats as my template to copy from so I dont have a bulky magazine/ book in the printer

Is it a uniform incorrect size or just in a single area?? As I would think if it was just one side or just an area the original is not sitting on the scanner like the rest of the pattern. But if the whole thing is off then I would think once its scanned in you need to resize the image before you print it off on your paper.

If it's distorted because you can't lay the book flat enough on the scanner bed then ....

Place the vellum over the page in the book and very carefully trace the pattern with pencil (so you can erase and fix!). The traced image will lay nice and flat in the scanner bed so then you can make multiple copies of it.

First be sure that the pattern in the book is "real" size. And, check to see if there is a 1" square on the pattern sheet.(This is your guide.) If there is no square, find a corner and draw one.

When you scan your page be sure to press down on the book to be sure to get a good flat surfact to scan. If the paper curls it can distort the scan. Check the test square to see if it is still 1" square. If not, the problem is in the scanner. You will need to check how you are printing the scan. Go to the advanced settings from your print options. Be sure that you are printing full size and not fit to page or center. I hope that this helps.

Two points:

1] I use 25% rag vellum for PP as it is easier to work with for me .... I bought a whole bunch from Office Depot. They also ship if needed.

2] If you know someone with an Electric Quilt program, they can make the block for you and print it out. Then you can copy that.

I have EQ if you need help and we can always e-mail, if you don't have someone close to do it for you.

I did try again. I put a 1inch mark at the top of the pattern page. I made sure the book was lying very flat when it was scanned. I first used regular comp paper. It copied fine. The inch marks matched up. Then I tried vellum ( 25% rag vellum from Office Max). The inch marks did not line up. The vellum copy was a little off. I think the printer doesn't like the vellum.
Thank you Alikat for your offer of help. I can use regular comp paper, but I am going to look into why my computer won't print on the vellum.
