I took a class a few weeks ago that included paper piecing. Instead of placing the material on the back to the line. She folded it along the line. Then sewed along the folded line. It kept the bulk of fabric trimmed as you worked. Keeping the seam allowance trimmed before every seam. It makes it easier to place the fabric in the correct place. To me the other way is working backwards. Not my favorite way. I hope this makes sense.

Do you mean you sewed next to the line, instead of on the line ?

Yes sew along the line. Maride that is a great visual. It really is much easier for me. Just can't think backwards.

I use that method too. By using the zipper foot, I can easily see (and align) the edge and I can adjust the needle position if I have to.

Yes, absolutely! That's the way its done with Freezer Paper which you can iron to the fabric then fold and sew! Can use the template over & over! Very easy and fun!

This is how I do it and it works great! you can reuse the paper until it no long sticks so you save on paper.
