I use vellum, but I also paper-piece differently than most. I don't sew through the paper; I fold it and sew right next to it. Vellum is somewhat transparent, so I can see exactly where to fold on the line.

thanks everyone, I called our local new paper and they do not sell the ends of the rolls. We use to get them in Pa. I love the doodle pad idea have one in the car, I keep for the grandsons . ​

I've tried them all, even some brands never heard of much. I only use lightweight translucent vellum. It prints great and doesn't leave tiny pieces to pull out of the seam. I bought a ream of it several years ago and still using it.

I have some Judy Niemeyer patterns and the paper they use is very light weight paper.

I buy a cheap brand of printer paper and set the stitch length to 1.2. have had no trouble removing the paper when done piecing.

I use wash away plastic. I draw on it, paper piece from the drawing, then wash it away when I am done.

NJ Quilter

I, too, use regular copier paper but I do reduce my stitch length - no particular setting, just less than my machine's default. I don't have issues with tearing the paper with the tinier stitches.

I use newsprint - I buy the 200 sheet pad from Blicks when I'm in the Twin Cities. I have to cut it down as it comes 9x12 and my copier will not handle larger than 8x11.5. I also have to manually feed it as it will jam if I try to run it through the regular feeder.

Yep. I set mine for 1.4mm & at most I just run the blunt end of my seam ripper against the seam & that makes it easy to remove (learned that tip from Jinny Beyer).
