The quilt is so special! I know that your granddaughter (and your daughter) will treasure it.
Maybe add a row of large low-contrast pinwheels like the smaller ones in the quilt, on both sides. You can make these whatever width you desire to increase the size of the quilt. You can use the coral as the binding.

This quilt is wonderful. I tend to like a dark color to frame most any quilt. You could use scraps for a piano key order to increase the size before adding a dark border. Please post a picture for us when complete.

I agree with this. The coral is too pale, perhaps, as well as too wide. I'd use a deeper color and make it narrower. But it's your quilt! Do whatever makes you happy. It's adorable!

The top border will fall over the top edge of the bed and not be seen.
I also like the idea of a stronger/darker color for the outside border. I do hope you will post the quilt when finished.

The coral border should be fine after it's quilted. Very nice.

Absolutely adorable. I agree with Bonnie I that the last border should be more narrow.

I too think the coral border will be fine since it will be at a 90 degree angle to the pieced top once it is on the bed. But maybe you could show the quilt with that swirl fabric as a border because that is darker and .... well, I just like the fabric! Don't know if it will look good or not since I cannot see it next to the top. Oh and what a sweet quilt for the granddaughter. She will treasure it, I am sure. Very nice job!

I am so grateful for all the helpful and considerate replies to my request for help. I have thought about each suggestion and talked to my daughter about our options. And I went back to the fabric store to see what else might work. In the process I found the perfect backing. My daughter loves the coral because it is a pinkish color and ties in all the pinks in the quilt. Pink is my granddaughters favorite color. So, I will keep the coral and scallop the edges. I'm adding another up close pic of the quilt beside the coral fabric to show better how it ties in the colors of them other border. I am really lousy at taking pics. But hopefully it will show better than the others. Thank you for all your wonderful advice and expertise. The border is not seen on yet just placed there.

It will be just right with that wide coral with the scalloped edge!
