I have these 'directions' glued to an old board hanging between 2 old washboards (one of the a glass one) right over my Maytag automatic washer. ;-0

My mother is almost 89, has the modern conveniences, and still does laundry on Monday and Ironing on Tuesday. And still can't understand why I don't.

when I was a teen, 35 years ago, we used a ringerwasher when the well went dry. I did my share of laundry that way. Whites then colored, then work pants. My hubby wonders why I still do them in that order...old habits.
By the way kiss your hot water, I have none for a week now, problems with the gas lines....still waiting, maybe tomorrow.

My granny had 9 kids and still managed to sew, cook, garden, wash etc. By the time I was born she was elderly, but quite spry. I remember she had a "wash house". It had several tubs and a couple of those old hand wingers. Ahh for the good old days...NOT!

I love this. My grandmothers actually remember their ancestors doing this.
