Hi, I have a pattern for a dog block and I want to make it much smaller. Can I simply cut the pieces in half the size as they are all rectangles and squares. Or will this change something that I cannot foresee. TIA

If it's a pieced block you have to subtract the seam allowance, then reduce the size, then add back in the seam allowance.

If it raw edge applique, your idea will be just fine. If pieced, follow Dunster.

thank you for this question--I just found a pattern in a magazine for a large lapquilt and really only want part of it, reduced, for a wall hanging.

If you take the pattern to your local Staples, they can reduce by whatever you want.

Or some home printers can reduce the size if you go into the printer tools.

I do this all the time with paper piece patterns.

LOL, I can just see someone taking pieced pattern instructions in for reduction. It will still say "cut two 5 inch squares" - only the print will be smaller.

That's how I would do it. Graph paper is so helpful. It does most of the math for me!
