It's a concept similar to how cathedral window quilts are made, also. You're folding over the edge and stitching it down.

Thanks Peckish, I do remember the tute and how the center piece is sewn in, although I didn't see it when she showed the back of the block. I need to revisit the 10 min. block to figure out how it's done again.

These are made from an inserted piece of fabric whose loose edges are on the bias. The curves are made as you would with "cathedral windows". This is similar to the method used in the Alaska Toss Quilt.
