    Hi Sandra,

I had seen this one from Carol's site-----but what I am really looking for is a total pattern for a queen size quilt. I have only been quilting for 3 yrs, and am not at the point where I can design my own pattern. I know there are some books out there with the pattern in it, so I may end up having to buy a book just to get the pattern. Thanks.

If you Google Mariners Compass Quilt Patterns queen size go to photos you may come up with something you like I just looked and there are quite a few even if you use a smaller pattern just make more blocks and add them on to get the size you want.

I just saw Judy Mathieson's book, Mariner's Compass Quilts—Setting a New Course, on sale for $5 at the C&T online clearance sale. Even with shipping, it's a steal.

    And a great book.

The center of my avatar quilt is from her first book - the Costa Rican Cartwheel block.
MC's are my favorite block - love drafting them.

I don't know if it's still available but she has a companion CD with scores of different compasses that you could print out in any size/dimensions you wanted
It's a little quirky when printing - this was ca. 1998 - but I use it all the time.

I wish she'd reissue it (with some technical upgrading).
I'd buy it even though I have the original.

I've never done a Mariner's Compass, but have to say, they look really hard! Are they as hard to make as they look? Are they paper pieced? (Is that a "duh" questions?)

if its paper peiced its not hard there is english peicing and its a bunch of little peices of fabric and alot of cutting. I hope I got this right lol i have paper peiced at various times and things I like the clean lines it produces
