Does anyone know if regular pellon interfacing can be used for the microwave bowl potholders? My cotton batting is not heavy enough to hold the shape and I would like to use a stabilizer in it. Just afraid to put it in the microwave.

Put a small piece of your pellon on a microwavable plate in the microwave and see what happens.

Try a burn test. If the ash turns flaky you're safe. If the ash is hard than you're not safe.

No no no no, synthetics will melt or catch fire. These bowls arnt meant to be stiff. If you add more quilting they will stiffen up.

I went and got some all cotton batting and made my husband 2 of them for his 2 different size bowls and he is so happy with them. I just channel quilted mine and they are holding up well. My thanks to the lady who posted the pattern for the fabric bowls. ;-)

thanks Lea. That's what I thought too. I was pretty sure it had to be 100% cotton. I'll have to wait for my "warm tater" batting to get here. It works perfectly.

Regular cotton batting (i.e. what we use for quilts) generally contains glue and resin. It is glue and resin that can cause fires in microwaves.

I only use the Warm Tater Batting that is made especially for microwaves as it is glue and resin free. I have found the best deals for this at Fabric.com. I watch for it when it is on sale and then order. I do a lot of craft fairs in the fall. Last weekend I sold almost 20 of them and came home with an order for 10 more for Christmas gifts!
