I just came across this product when I was in JoAnn' s today and read on the package that you can print a quilting design on your inkjet printer then stick it on your quilting project, quilt it, and then it will wash away. I' m wondering if anyone has tried this product and how you liked it? Did it leave any residue on your project?

is it for quilting designs , like a stencil?

I haven't used that brand but it sounds like a Sulky product that I have used called Sticky Fabric Solvy. It was great! Get your design size correct on plain paper before you print on the sheets though because it could get expensive if you had misprints. I trimmed off the extra and used it for smaller hand drawn designs so I had little waste. It's easy to quilt through, keeps your designs more consistent than doing them freehand, and handles better than golden threads or tissue paper. Once it was done, it washes out.

Lynnie, I did not buy it because I wanted to see if anyone on the Board had experience with it. Plus I had used up my coupons for this time frame so will try some when I get more coupons.

Katie - I didn't know about the Solvy. I will also check into that. Thanks for mentioning that.

I buy it at Walmart for about $5 a yard. It's 19 inches wide.

After your quilting is complete remove as much of it as possible, then rinse away the remainder. I've used it for embroidery, not quilting. Would imagine it works the same.

I've used the Sulky Sticky that Katier mentioned. I left it on the fabric until the quilt was finished and then washed it. I had no problem with it dissolving.

Thanks everyone - I am going to try both products to compare. I'm just so excited to know that these products exists as I am a beginner FMQ and I think it will help me in some of my designs.

I haven't used that brand, but I have used this:

I used it with a very pale violet thread and it worked well. No residue whatsoever and it made FMQ a custom design much easier for me. They suggest on the package to test it with your specific printer ink to make sure that the ink doesn't stain (which I did). I was very happy with it and would definitely use it again. Also, just a tip, I reduced the intensity of the color in my design so it printed very light, I did this to avoid staining chances, and to save ink.
