Peter Walsh fabric stash organization tips
#52
First of all it would take me way more than one day or one weekend to sort through all my fabrics. Second I love my fabrics and could not stand to part with most of them anyway. Third I will be retiring in 4+ months and hope to have much more time to quilt. And last, I'm just greedy and want to keep it all.

Hehehehehe when I read that I clicked out. No way and just cutting two yards of longer pieces and getting rid of the rest. I need 6 yard pieces for backing. He has to be kidding. It is like telling a painter to get rid of his paint. At least when you paint you can mix up the desired shades with the basic colors but with fabric there is not much you can do besides antique it by tea dying.
I did go through fabric that people gave about 2 months ago. I had a friend help me and we had two mid size bags that I was going to give away. DD 13 got into them before I could give them away. She is now on her second rag quilt. Woohooo! I had some none quilting fabric, lots of knits, that DH took to the garage for rags. I felt kind of bad but he is happy too.

Oh I am with you declutter your house so you can have more space for the fabric. Hehehehe
Oh and for anyone getting rid of cotton solids. PM me for my addy I will pay for shipping. I have no solids except for Kona black and I would love some. Not sure why he is saying to get rid of those as they seem they would be real easy to work into a project.

I'm more the type that likes to keep things simple & uncluttered. If I've not used something in a certain amount of time, I pass it on somehow or throw it out! Makes me feel a lot lighter & more free somehow!

I would not let anyone help me clean up my sewing room. I want to make all the decisions when it comes to my hobbies. I won't let anyone make me get rid of anything. I was real poor when i was young and that is why I keep my stuff.

Same here. I used to stop by the fabric shops everyday when I worked and now I have a wonderful stash to use during my retirement. I bought things with a project in mind and thankfully, I still like it.
