TCT: Have you ever gone to the website www.sewingmastery.com. The website reviews extensively Pfaff, Bernina, Singer and Husqvarna Viking machines. She does complete videos walking you through every detail on every page in your manual and more. I use it all the time when I have a question about my Performance 5.0. I checked and she does have the QE 4.2 on the site, she probably has your answer. Happy quilting.

It is not a solution but I have the same problem with my Pfaff 5.0 Expressions. The reason I purchased it two years ago was to have a larger throat and I have not been able to do a single free motion project with it. Great for straight line work. I am disappointed, really disappointed. I will give the sewingmastry.com a look. Meet your there!

I found a tutorial online for my Pfaff. Well, I viewed the tutorial for my machine and learned WAY more that what was presented when I had my "free class". I have been using the incorrect foot for my free motion attempts which might solve my problem. The correct foot is only $16. For that, I can invest and try again. My fingers are crossed and a pile of quilt sandwiches are waiting. .

I searched for a similar tutorial for your machine. It might help you solve you problem with the thread breaking. I just did a Google search with your machine numbers and up popped several options. I like the one from Village Sewing.

Hope you can find the solution to the breaking thread problem. Chin up and quilt on.

TCT, I have that same machine and would like to have some advice for you, but I don't know what "SFM" means or a couple other of the abbreviations in the question. Sorry, it is probably something that will make me say, "of course". There are a few different settings to use for free motion and the machine is a little fussy about which setting with which foot. Keep trying because it will do nice free motion for you. Later on I will check my manual for things that I have marked and found helpful.

I have Pfaff QE 4.2 and am guessing SFM means Sensormatic Free Motion.

Thanks so much for the link. I recently purchased a Pfaff ICON and the videos on this page really help.

Of course! You are right. I don't use that setting so didn't ring a bell for me. Thanks, rvsfan
