Piecer? or Finisher?
#62
I used to be a piecer...or partial piecer...but now I'm more of a finisher.
The best thing I did for myself was back in 2001. My resolution for the year was to finish a quilt a month. That didn't mean from "start to finish"...because I did have a lot of stuff sitting around...I just had to FINISH a quilt every month.
By March, I was getting tired of ditch quilting and the easy stuff that I could do with my walking foot.
I finally got up the courage to learn to free motion quilt simply because I couldn't stand using my walking foot any longer. I had (still do) a stash much to big to stop quilting...it was either that or learn to free motion.
Another payoff, I could finally put away my "how to bind a quilt" notes, because I did enough quilts in a row to finally lock it into my itty bitty brain.
Anyway, that's my story. Maybe it'll work for you!

Okay, it is officially out there now. I have listed numerous sizes of quilt tops to be quilted at a Fourth of July special rate for the whole month of July. Please check them out in the classified section. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY everyone.

I love the process of making a quilt top, the pattern, fabric, placement, sewing, everything...but, then quilting. I like to FMQ but it seems to take some extra incentive to get me to finish it all up. I usually like to wait until I have someone to give it to before I do the quilting.

Looks like piecing is the favorite of most. I don't drag my feet as much anymore. I used to just tie my quilts, then started hand quilting. (still trying to perfect the stitches). My friend bought one of those small longarms, her goal is to get me to use it. I've started off small with a hopping foot on my machine. I now find fininshing a creative part of the quilt also, I combine hand quilting and machine quilting.

I like piecing and love to see the top finished, but the rest of it is just work. The thing I hate the most is putting the quilt sandwich together, that seems to be the main problem for me. No matter how hard I try, it seems I always have a wrinkle somewhere. I think that is why I have always sent my quilts out to be quilted. I really don't mind the binding.

I love to hand quilt. I'm starting to meander outside of the ditch these days....I think wholecloths are in my future!
I piece and am starting to get into more intermediate piecing because I want to make my quilting better. I love following the seams on the top to see it come to life in the backing.
Someday I might have a medium size arm or something if I ever really get into machine quilting...but I love my handwork and find it so relaxing. It takes me approx 6 months to quilt a queen size working on it a little each day.
I recently starting quilting a lady's smaller tops. I wish more people were patient like her and give me the time to finish. With the invention of the long arm, many people don't like the handwork anymore...takes too long.
