    Default Pineapple Block- Variations? Techniques?

I've been wanting to tackle a pineapple block quilt for some time now, so now's the time. I have boxes of scraps that I want to use up and some scraps are pretty small. I've been looking at images on the search engine all morning, trying to decide what kind of look I want and how to put it together. I've seen some variations on the pattern; exploding pineapples, pineapples with vines, big pcs., tiny pcs, etc. I think that I'm going for lots of small pieces, either very scrappy looking, or very graphic (bold, two, or three tones.) I've seen a couple of methods in putting the block together; foundation paper pc. and no paper pc. I wonder which is better?

Does anyone have tips, or suggestions in design, or construction? Thanks!

    ~ Cindy

I did mine with paper piecing foundation. It is a lot easier and more accurate way unless you are a perfect piecer. If you get off just a little bit with sewing your strips, it will show up on this design.

I also did one with paper piecing and if I did another would do the same.

I've made Quiltville's Pineapple Blossom pattern twice, once very scrappy and 2nd controlled scrappy. Both came out great and so different. On the red/black/white one I used up the cut-offs to make the pinwheels for the border.

The first paper pieced quilt I made was a pineapple block ...and after 90 blocks I really got that method drummed into my head! Sorry just a portion to show you ...file too big I guess, but the blocks intersected nicely.
