I understand now. The 78 is the goal if that many are needed. You can make your goal 50 blocks!

Sure, if that's what you want to make, then work along with us!
I am going to work on two projects at the same time. One with the hour glass in a mini quilt 24" x 24". That will have 20 hour glasses in them. Then the other is true pinwheels with 30 of them. That would equal 50 then will still need to make 28 other pinwheels to finish out the challenge for something else. Does this make sense? K

    Right 9" unfinished = 8 1/2" finished.

Just finished my very first pinwheel....all points meet perfectly! But at the center where the points do meet is lumpy. I have pressed it throughly, but the lump remains. What is suggested?

Try to press that seam open to reduce bulk and see if that helps.

Ok, so if I make 78 8 1/2" squares how big will it be?

If you make it 81 squares, you can set it 9 sq by 9 sq, which will be approx 73 inches square. Add a border or two and you have a queen quilt!
