    Default Place mat batting?

I am making a batch of placemats for Christmas gifts and would like to know what I should use for the batting. In the past I used Warm and Natural, but after numerous washings, it gets pretty limp. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I will be watching the comments you get for any kind of batting to use as I have always used Warm and Natural but have not had any trouble with projects getting limp.

Pellon fleece interfacing is my favorite. 45" wide, sold with the interfacings, not batting.

I used 80/20 batt for mine. There is a new product that makes a thin but stiff placemat. I saw some at our guild sale and they are really nice but I don’t know the name of it.

I use any low loft dense batting. W&N or Hobbs 80/20 have both worked great for me.

Soft and stable makes precut placemats or you can buy a package of Soft & Stable and cut your own. They are stiff and hold their shape wonderfully.

Jmoore, thanks for the name. The Soft and Stable is what I will buy next time as the placemats were great.

I often use quilters fleece which works well. Have also used Soft and Stable which I like a lot but can get expensive if you are making many placemats.

One placemat pattern that I have suggests a layer of flannel instead of batting. I'd be sure to pre-wash/pre-shrink it though.
