    Default Placemats

I'd like to make some placemats. I need to protect my wooden table. So what's the best batting to use inside .... cotton, 80/20, insulbrite or what? Thk.

I use a 80/20. I like a nice solid batting like Warm and Natural. It has the solid thickness I like but this is just my preference. If I was using the pats for hot dishes I would consider the Insulbright or maybe an extra layer of batting.

I agree with cjsews. I prefer Hobbs over Warm & Natural. Back in the old days when dinosaur roamed the earth, cotton batting was new to the market and W&N actually had bits and pieces of wood like splinters embedded in the batting. Of course, over the years they have corrected that problem but I just prefer Hobbs.

I am not sure, but, I think I read that nancy's notions has a bat for protecting your table from heat damage.

I too prefer the Hobbs. It is the nicest bat ever to work with in my opinion.

I tend to use prewashed flannel for placemats or a very thin batting. Placemats don't necessarily need to have insulbrite in them. You aren't setting super hot pots on them. I like keeping my placemats as thin as possible so that the quilting doesn't make my glasses wobbly.
If i don't have flannel, I use a thin cotton batting.

Thanks everyone for your help. Off to Joann's today to check out their batting.

I like the pellon craft deco stabilizer instead of batting. The placemats lay flat and look crisp.
