I have seen diffrent charts with diffrent sizes for bed sizes for quilts. Did I say this right? I have made 2 perhaps full size quilts now, but maybe they are more twin size. They fit the top of the full size bed and barely hangs down on either side. Not sure what to call it twin or full. Hard for me to gauge. Any thoughts on this?

Were the charts showing mattress size or quilt size? If you're still confused you could measure your bed then add the drop to get the size you need.

I really can't give a proper answer. I think when a quilt is made the right size for a mattress it is still to small. I like atleast a 12in. hang over on each side and the bottom. You could call them twin size quilts but they are probably the correct size for a full size bed. Remember you do not have to follow the rules exactly. Please don't tell the quiltpolice I just said that!! LOL!!

I measured the mattress top and the thickness, with all the extra thick/high mattress's now a regular queen is too short on the drop/sides and bottom.

Amen to that! I had a mattress with a pillow top that was 18 inches thick. It was hard to even find sheets that would fit.

I measured top and drop I wanted, had the blocks right where I wanted them to be along the bed edge, but after quilting it, ( and not a lot of quilting,) it was too small to fit like I wanted. A queen size ended being right for a full size bed. I've wondered how much you need to allow for the quilting take up.

I have a queen bed and love the California King top sheets and coverings. I want it to fall all the way to the floor. I like the look of it since it looks to me to be "finished".

I look at those guidelines as a starting point. IMHO is is better to measure the mattress the quilt is going on, and then the desired drop. There are too many variations in mattresses and also bed frames, if you want a longer drop closer to the floor. :D:D:D

Okay,I sold waterbeds and regular mattresses for over 20 years so I can tell you the sizes of mattresses,but only across the top as many mattresses are of different thicknesses. The standard depth or thickness is 7" to 9". Twin= 39"x 75", Full/double=54"x75", Queen=60"x 80", King=76"x80", California K/Q mattress only is 60"x84 and 72"x84. I imagine if you measure from the top of the mattress towards the floor how long you want the quilt to hang and double it for width, then do the same amount to the bottom for length you will have the hang you're looking for. The measurements for a K/Q comforter are I believe 96"x 108".
