For the quilters who use phone book pages, I have three questions:
1) Does the ink ever transfer or stain the fabric?
2) Does the ink show through light fabrics (assuming you leave the papers attached)?
3) Do you remove the pages before sewing blocks together?
I usually use cheap copy paper or unprinted newsprint (if I can find it), but phone book pages sound good to me. ]
Thanks! :-)

I always remove the paper before I sew my blocks together just because it is easier to remove.

Because you don't cut out foundation fabric. It stays in the quilt. Only paper comes off, fabric foundations are permanent.

Wash the muslin before you use it. I got a great buy one time on muslin & after I washed it, you could hardly iron it because it wrinkled up so bad. Fabric softener didn't help either.

to those of you who DO use dryer sheets, please don't you or your relatives ever die ... those quilts would be passed along to someone who might be killed by them (for instance, me ... I have a severe allergy to certain scents).

I do use old dryer sheets to do turned machine applique. I hand wash them in hot water and detergent first, and they come out really soft and very clean. They work great for the machine applique method I use.

I get a lot of my quilting fabric from recycling thrift store items. One of my favorites is bed ruffles. Often the material used to cover the springs is lower quality and not good for much else, but it makes fantastic foundation piecing backing. When I do get a high quality cotton top, then I save that for when I need whites. I don't really care for a lot of white in my quilts, so I am getting quite a collection.

I use them for cleaning my blinds, polishing mirrors and glass, and polishing shoes. I use Melaleuca products because we have severe allergies and Teatree oil is not one of them. I use un scented even then, but not in my quilts.
