This was actually a pattern...the center bells were a panel, and this "block" is quite large....here is a link to mine...I don't have the pattern name handy, but I can look for the info if you still need it!

Jill, thank you for posting a picture of your project. I was studying the original and was having difficulty in determining how it was put together. Your photo helped. I don't think this is a beginner's project as it looks like there could be some partial seams. Looks like it will require some graph paper, pencil and eraser.

Instead of the star, you could just use a plain block or a fussy cut block for the center.
