I am putting sashing between the blocks. Do I just make the side triangles the same size as my unfinished blocks? Or do I have to add for the sashing?

There usually is a strip of sashing that goes between the edge blocks and the setting triangles, so they will sort of be the same size. But remember, you can't just cut a square the size of your block and whack it in half. You need to allow for the seam allowance. Here's a handy-dandy chart:

Add the sashing in with your measurements when figuring your setting triangles.

Isn't there math involved like adding 7/8" to the setting triangles?? I always oversize my setting triangles because there is NOTHING worse then cutting them just a tad bit too small. I use this ruler for cutting mine:

Depending on your design, you do need to included the sashing width in your calculations. It sometimes help if you can post a photo of the quilt in progress.

PaperPrincess thank you so much for your advice. I have printed this out and hopefully will be able to find it in my important paper file. I can never figure these out but I know this will be helpful and save fabric.

I am one who prefers to go oversized and trim down so I don't risk chopping any points in the seam allowance when attaching my border.
