Polyfil or batting
I am making mascetomy pillows and I'm not sure which I should use, polfil or batting. Will they both wash well, if necessary and will they hold their shape. The pattern that I used from sammygirlqt, who did a great job at explaining the instructions and diagrams. The batting I'm using is from other projects and some of the sizes are the right size that I need for the pillow.Just wanting to use up some of the stuff in my room. Thanks for reading and hope for a reply.

I made one for my boss's mom and I used poly fill. I also didn't sew it closed but used velcro to close it that way if it needed more or less filling she could add or take it away.
Good luck and it's a great thing you're doing!

I saw a demo where both were used. A layer of batting was used against the fabric, and the interior was filled with polyfil or a pillow form. The batting helped to give smoothness to the pillow and fill out the edges and corners evenly. It seemed like a good approach for a professional look.

I make hundreds of these a year for the breast center. I use polyfil, stuffed very full. The cost is really getting out of hand these days. Joans sells the 5 lb box for around $15. I watch for it to go on sell at 50% off. I rely on friends who give me their scrap material. I cut my pillows the size of printer paper with one side on the fold.
