    Default Portable sewing machine

    Hi

I am looking for a great portable sewing machine to take to classes. I love Janome machines -and have the 6500 and have been considering the Jem Platnium 720. Or 760 but also wanted to consider other machines. Has anyone used the Elna Lotus? Would love to hear people's thoughts. Kathy

When I looked for a machine to take to classes last year, my main criteria was that it had to be light-weight. I ended up buying a Janome-made Kenmore (the box says it's a 12102) at an estate sale for $65. It's a nice basic machine and has some standard zig-zags.

My Featherweight is my "take it with me" machine. It goes to classes and I take it with me when I travel.

I have the older Janome Jem Gold. It has never given me one problem and it has been toted around to workshops/classes for years with many different people including children using it. I would choose the Janome made Kenmore or Janome brand for a portable machine. Not that other brands aren't great, I just know first hand about Janome. I have a FW and it's super easy to tote but no convenient extras at all.

Bernette 46 ---- Light weight enough to take whereever. Basic stitches. Snap on feed dog cover and great free motion when I need it. Very versatile compared to some others and if soemthing happens to Bernard I can fix him --mechanical not computerised.
