I've had a request (thru my DH) to make a bible cover. I've never made one and not sure of the size to make. She is supposed to call with the measurements. Since we only have a large family Bible, I can't use my own for measurement. What seems to be popular sizes? And can anyone post photos of their Bible Covers? I did bookmark a tute on this site; I love the strip sewing.

A bible cover has to fit the bible. And they come in as many sizes as there are people in the world. Get the measurements or the bible and then make it. A cover for a bible is a one of a kind project. Good luck.

Maybe you better wait for her measurements. I have 2 or 3 bibles and they are all different sizes. Even if just by a couple of inches.

i'd say that you would have to wait for her measurements. bibles come in so very many sizes and thicknesses.

Definitely wait for measurements. There is no 'standard' size.

After making a few, if it is a soft cover bible, I would suggest slipping a stiffener inside the pocket with the bible flap after the cover is completely finished. (A piece of cardboard, a piece of the stuff used to make purse sides more stable, etc). If it is a hard cover, you should be fine without it.

But no, they aren't hard especially once you have the dimensions of the bible.

Thanks for all the responses. My beautician has a small bible she carries with her at all times. perhaps tomorrow I'll get the measurements for hers and make her one. I really want to make one and don't want to wait until I hear from the possible buyer. Especially since she may never contact me, lol.

I have eight or ten Bibles and not a one of them is the same size as any of the others!

Go ahead and make one for your beautician - if she carries it all the time, she might appreciate some protection for it. :)

For a study Bible, a super deluxe cover might have a loop to hold a pen, a pocket to slide the back cover of a notepad into, an empty pocket to hold notes and prayer lists, and a velcro closure tab. :)

This is one of the projects on my "ta-do" list - along with a cover for the Liturgy of the Hours.

Measure it yourself. Not everyone can read a rule correctly.
