Default Prairie Point borders - corners?

All the tutorials I have seen show the two blocks at the corners butted right against each other.

My problem is that after you sew the points on and turn the points to the back, you will have 8 layers of fabric from the points, plus 2 more layers from the backing/border fabric that cross over at the corner on the back!

Is there a way not to have the 10 layers crossing at the back?
    Thanks for any help!

I think you are doing it the way I did it a couple of decades ago.
