I prewash all my quilts before gifting. I don't want any surprises for the recipient in the wash. All my quilts look like yours. Not only are there no surprises, they are nice and soft. I gift them by explaining that I have already washed it. I'm not a prewasher of fabric or batting.

After the show I wash it and don't iron it again. LOL

I have a bolt of Wrap and Zap batting that I bought specifically for bowl cozies and the like. The first ones I made I followed the pattern with just stitching across from corner to corner and when washed they shrunk so badly they would not fit any size bowl. Since then I do much more quilting and have done exactly what onebyone suggested and it does work better. Shrinking the wrap and zap by washing and drying it made it so thick in some places I could only use it in pot holders or the like. QUOTE=Onebyone;8286432]I usually pre shrink any cotton type batting. I don't wash it, I let the dyer do the work. I spray it with water until damp and dry on hot. No stretching or hassle with a heavy mess of wet batting.[/QUOTE]

Sorry, I love the soft crinkled look. I think your quilt looks perfect.

Maybe you could include a note with the gift that says the crinkling is normal and not indicative of age or defect in any way. This is actually a good thing to do in general, especially if you don't wash before giving. I've heard of many non-quilters who receive a quilt as a gift, eventually washed it, then are heartbroken and feel awful because it crinkled and they believe they ruined it.

I think it looks perfect. I mainly use high loft polyester batting. I wash all the fabric before making a quilt and when it is finished. No one has ever said anything to me about the crinkles.

Does anyone toss batting in a dryer on air or low temp with a damp towel?
I do put my batting in the dryer for 5-10 min to get the excess wrinkles out of it. I am not worried about shrinking it so I have never put a damp towel in it.

(With photo). I think this looks normal to me. This looks to me like a quilt you want to be used and loved. It is not an heirloom quilt that you would never wash.

The Batting did not shrink more than the amount listed in the description.
