    It took me years to figure out that adjusting the pressure on the foot can be as important for some projects as picking thread , needle etc. I learned on a very old singer and the adjustment is not as obvious as my nwer machine. Its a threaded nut at the top of the machine, no numbers no dial , so I just never touched it. My newer machine is so much easier to make adjustments and more important how to get back to the general purpose setting.

    Both of the two machines I use all the time has an adjustable presser foot pressure knob. One also has several different heights for adjusting the feed dogs.

    To Viking owners, you can also overide the auto presser foot settings. Go into the "set" menue on your touch screen. There will be a picture of a presser foot and+ or- options.
