    I wash and dry flannel twice, just to make sure :D:D:D

    flannels will get softer/loftier when it comes out of the dryer too, so wash those flannels!!! the shrinkage can be anywhere from an inch up to 6" in one direction sometimes depending on the flannel! it depends on the weight and weave of the flannel how much it is going to shrink, looser weaves shrink the most. i had a very expensive, very heavy double napped flannel (108" wide) that i bought 3 yards of for a backing...so it started out 108" square...after washing it it measured 104"x 100" !!! since then i've always bought an extra 1/2 yard just to 'cover' the shrinkage (and i am so glad i prewashed...almost didn't)
