I know this has come up before, it was over 2 yrs ago, but do we really need to prewash jelly roles. I'm not talking the cheap JoAnn's, but the real nice ones from LQS?

I don't ever wash my jelly rolls - but then I don't prewash anything so guess my opinion doesn't count.

I only did this once! Two years ago when I first started quilting. Biggest mistake ever. I washed and dried them :( Made such a huge mess. If you want to wash them I suggest hand washing lol

I really dont think they need washed though :)

Would it work if you separated the stack into two or three mesh lingerie bags made for the washer and washed and dried them in those bags? I don't know as I have never tried it but I just thought of this as a possible solution.

Moda does not recommend washing their jelly rolls or charm packs.

I wouldn't wash jelly rolls. You would loose a lot of width if you do. If you are afraid that the colors would run, I would soak them in Retayne and line dry, but not in the washing machine.

I have prewashed several jelly rolls - by hand. Just do a few at a time in the sink, squeeze excess water out with layers of toweling and iron. You might want to use an ironing surface with straight lines on it to line the strips up. This should work for charm squares (never done that) and could use the lines for squaring if the ironing surface is stretched correctly.

I prewash all my fabric by hand, use towels to soak up excess water, then iron. Yes, the fabric is wetter than other methods, but it makes it easier to 'straighten' up the fabric if it's off, and very few stringy threads.
