I’ve been using pre wound bobbins for years. I’ve noticed over the past month, I’ve had to change bobbins more frequently, sometimes after 10 days of sewing. I have a new Pfaff 720. Any reason that would use up bobbin threads faster? Maybe less going on the pre wounds for some reason?

I'd say if you only have to change bobbins after 10 days of sewing, you're doing pretty good!

When I'm piecing, I went through maybe 3 or more bobbins in half of a day. Quilting, today I went through 4+ of them and only was quilting for less than 2 hours. My bobbins are also full bobbins right to the edge minus about a 1/16 or less of an inch. I use 50wt thread for everything.

It really depends on what type of quilt I am making. The above is on my latest quilt in progress.

To the OP:
It really depends on how much time you are sewing/quilting. Are you quilting more? Or perhaps making a pattern that has more seams? If not, are you using the same company to buy the pre-wound bobbins from? It might be good to check the company reviews to see if others are having the same issues.

I have a Bernina with the large bobbin and a Juki with a regular size bobbin and that one sure runs out fast! I'm spoiled by my Bernina but I love using my Juki.

I use Bottom Line thread in the bobbin (and also on top) and that means far fewer bobbin changes, also very little lint.

There's not much I miss about my Bernina .... other than that large bobbin!!!

Is your stitch length and tension the same? Are you sewing the same weight fabric you always sew?

I just started sewing with prewounds recently but it seems to me that if they changed the amount per bobbin you would be able to tell.

I am thinking the same thing as dunster, one bobbin in 10 days your lucky.😳 I use glide polyester thread, 40 wt, I fill my own bobbins and find polyester thread last longer then when I was using cotton in a bobbin. But I still use up to 5 a day at times, obviously depends on how much time I get to sew and my stitch I am using. I would say on average I use 2 bobbins a day on a weekend day when I am off work and can sew to my hearts content.

I started using magna glide pre filled bobbins in my Juki 2010. I can sew for days without having to change one.
