OMG! I'm afraid I'd have to think long and hard before I'd pay 16.99 to 19.99 for batiks from JoAnns. 90% of the batiks at my JoAnns is cheap looking and doesn't wash up nice.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this, but Connecting Threads does not have fabrics that are made in the USA, nor are they advertising even that their fabrics are made from cotton that is grown in the USA (though they did advertise that a year or so ago).

They only mention international manufacturing partners now:

As far as I know, there are NO fabrics that are made in the USA anymore, and only a few places that still print fabric in the USA (Santee being one of them). JoAnn fabrics does carry fabrics that are printed by Santee.

Thousandsofbolts.com has some, and connecting threads, that's where I get most of mine, although if someone else is havng a good sale, I'll go there. Batik's Plus have Hoffman batik's and I don't think they are even that high.

    Hi, cjomomma,

I only began quilting a year ago. From the very start I fell in love with batiks. For my quilts,I use only batiks, solids, and TOTs.

There are on-line sources for batiks. My favorite is Seawatch Fabrics, which has the most btkis I've seen in one place. They're priced at $8.99/yard, and when I say beautiful, thy're beautiful.

I get a few batiks from a local shop tht has a wide selection. Theirs are priced at $10. I'll not pay more than that, not when I have options.

We have a quilt shop up here in the Yukon. Conveniently enough within walking distance of my work.

Batiks are the same price as cottons by the metre... $18.99.

I love making quilts with batiks.

Yes, when JoAnnes still carried a large stock of batiks, the last ones I bought from them were $12.99 a yd. and I decided never again. Went to a quilt shop in VA with my daughter and they had a selection that had any and every combination you could ever want and it was mostly 9.97yd. Made me slightly sick to think what I had paid so much for. Now, JoAnnes has only a few bolts of it and not very good quality either, more like painted cheesecloth.
