Yes. I know, I have done that too! I feel so stupid when that happens. You would think I'd have learned the first time. lol

ellifour 07-27-2012 01:53 PM

been there, done that!

Sounds like my day - decided to be nice and change the needle on my machine, can't remember when I last put a new one in, although I haven't quilted for nearly 6 months due to a ruptured disk in my neck, surgery and rehab. Anyhoo, put the new needle in, spent 15 minutes trying to thread needle, was doing the last bit of top stitching to a Bow Tucks handle, and yup - ran out of bobbin thread. Filled the bobbin again, then of course had to spend another 11 minutes re-threading the needle, etc.,etc., got a phone call - well at least I finished topstitching the handle - tomorrow is another day. LOL

Those kind of days seem to happen more often as I get older.

Well - ditto, ditto, ditto. My machine does "yell" at me when I leave the pressure foot up and try and sew; the icon on the setting window does flash if my thread breaks, but not when the needle isn't threaded, or when the bobbin runs out. Of course, the bobbin thread on my machine usually runs out a few inches before finishing what ever I was sewing - or just as I have made the perfect miter on one of the binding corners. You would think with all the technology someone out there would figure out how to build a dsm that would hold a larger bobbin and figure out how to put a light in the bobbin area so you could really see how much thread was left without having to take your fabric completely out from under the pressure foot. When I get to the point where I am having to undo/re-do whatever at the machine - I turn it off and walk away for awhile - usually to go and read for awhile (preferably with chocolate of some sort close to hand or a cup of coffee - or I do some hand work. Oh ya - if I drop a needle or a pin on the floor, DH's bare foot is usually the one that finds it. Kinda like he always got the bay leaf in his spagetti and meatballs!

I'm so glad you had some chocolate on hand! Nothing solves problems like chocolate!!!

Grannyh67 07-28-2012 05:09 AM

sounds like something I would do. you started my day off with a good laugh, thanks and I will try not tr repeat what you did, as I have done before myself, many times

mjsylvstr 07-28-2012 05:14 AM

ditto, ditto........

clsurz 07-28-2012 05:29 AM

Now that is funny! I have to admit I've done something similar but not with that many. Gave me a good chuckle this morning.

lovelyl 07-28-2012 05:43 AM

Done that! Also sewed most of the first long strip on a 1600 in quilt without bobbin thread. Didn't even notice until I was almost at the end of that looooong seam!

Raine 07-28-2012 05:48 AM

Been there, done that several times, lol. No wine for me, then it wouldn't get done.

Quilter 65 07-28-2012 05:52 AM

These stories gave me a chuckle because last night as I was frog stitching several hexes, because I had cut probably 100 5 inch hexes, had sewn several together, and THEN decided I didn't like that particular color, and started in again. Now to figure out what to do with those lovely hexes that are perfectly fine, but just not for this project. (Smacking forehead, duh!) What is that old saying, if you don't try something, you won't make mistakes! Guess we are trying to do something!

that would be me. Now you will always check to make sure it is threaded.

mcdor 07-28-2012 07:19 AM

That is something I would do..

Happy Linda 07-28-2012 07:26 AM

Yep, those times are frustrating.

rekrug 07-28-2012 07:28 AM

Are we related? Have done that more than once!

jaciqltznok 07-28-2012 07:41 AM

oh dear...not laughing AT you, but WITH you I am sure....my recent motorcycle accident triggered the fibro brain fog this week...I can not hold a thought together long enough to walk 2 feet! Hope the rest of your sewing goes as planned!

Yes, I can attest to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What amazes me is that I can do it again, after the first time I did it.:D:D

Chocolate always helps.

MimiBug123 07-28-2012 10:33 AM

Rule of thumb--ALWAYS keep chocolate near your machine. BTW, I think my machine has gone deaf. No matter what I say to it, or how loud, it just doesn't respond.

Used the thread cutter and started to pull the squares back to cut apart. You all know where this is going don't you.. well, duh. I never re-threaded the needle. omg i love it :D

caspharm 07-28-2012 11:13 AM

Been there, done that. I've done with just changing thread. :)

Helen S 07-28-2012 01:01 PM

OMG, I think everyone's week has been going this way! lol Guess we can either blame it on the moon or the Olympics...maybe the heat? Think I'll give that chocolate a whirl and see if it helps ME! lol

Lara122 07-28-2012 01:38 PM

I have a large spool of cotton thread, and I fill two bobbins with it. I generally run out of needle thread first, then I fill another bobbin, and put the full one in the bobbin and use the used bobbin one for the needle thread. I never sew without bobbin thread this way. I hate to do that!! =)

mdall 07-28-2012 02:22 PM

Been there, done that. Many times too. Thanks for the laugh

glenda5253 07-28-2012 04:39 PM

Sounds SO familiar...thanks for the chuckle.

Material Witness 07-28-2012 06:43 PM

Just goes to show, chocolate WORKS!

Patti Sue 07-28-2012 06:46 PM

That is so cool! Thanks for the laugh I needed that!!!!! Been there done that!

nstitches4u 07-29-2012 06:19 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does things like that. LOL Thanks for the chuckle

pllboyer 07-30-2012 04:41 AM

Another one is looking high and low for a missing piece to finally find it stuck to you someplace and it's really hard to see if it's on your backside!!!!!!!

#1piecemaker 07-30-2012 04:43 AM

At least you can laugh about it. I just hate it when I am sewing away and find out that I'm not really sewing at all.
