In early November I started a list on my notebook app on my phone. It is a long, long list. One part has ufo's to finish and WIP to finish, the other list is new projects I want to start. I'm just going to go down those lists and mark them finished when they get done. I have to see things in writing or I won't get to them, this really helps me.

I'm with Betsey I have a lot of different hats to wear so I want to focus on quilting related activity 2-4 hours a week. Projects to finish and start and finish .

My goals are much more basic, but relevant to me. I want to quilt at least a half hour a week, and work on learning how to free motion quilt, and make finished quilts out of 5 tops I have that are really pretty, but just collecting dust.

I have a gmfg quilt that I hand pieced and I'm hand quilting- I have been working on it off and on for several years (it's embarrassing how long) - I want to finish it this year. I also want to make each of my 2 sons a new quilt.

hmmm ... goals for 2013 ...

1. be more active in my guild. they're a fun bunch. :)
2. finish two UFOs before each new project started.
3. since i have to use my dining area as my sewing space, keep working to make it more organized and presentable. it would be nice to actually have friends over for dinner in here once in a while. (hey! it's a concept. LOL)
4. pull more from my stash and less from newly purchased fabrics. that includes figuring out how to use the fabs i don't like any more.

it will be interesting to look back in a year to see whether or not i managed to accomplish any of that. LOL

I'm like some of the rest of you who want to finish UFO's. There's 3 of those that are high on the priority list. GFG, which used to be my "work" project. Let me explain. I drove an 18-wheeler for 20 years & for the last 7 years I always had a quilt to work on while I was being loaded or unloaded or during "down" time. This was the one I was working on when I retired in March of this year. It's nearing its completion, just have 10 more flowers & the rest of the border to assemble & then quilt it. The other 2 have been in the UFO pile for several years. "Blooming Hearts" is a Baltimore album type that's turning into @ 84" square. Needless to say, it's all hand appliqued. I'm down to putting the borders on & quilting it. I want to show this quilt. The other is a Lonestar titled "Texas, America's shining star". Since I gifted myself with a LA as a retirement gift, I've revamped this one. I'm pulling the applique off the drawings & replacing it with quilting. This one will take quite awhile just to quilt. It'll also be a show quilt & hopefully be able to put it into Paducah for 2014. I have a few others that need to be finished, but not on this level. I'll do a few swaps throughout the year, do a couple of mystery quilts & keep improving my LA skills. That's enough to keep me busy!

For the last few years since I started quilting I make a list of what I would like to achieve with my sewing so this year my goals are:-

Finish 2 matching twin quilts (only stopped with them cos I had Christmas stuff!)
make friendship braid quilt
Complete qayg sampler (working on that in class)
finish 2 small Christmas wips
Work on fmq
do bom on quilting board (to expand my skills)
do sulky bom (cos I really like it)

I probably will do other projects inbetween but my main goal is to not have ANY ufos at the end of the year only finished or current (actually working on) projects.

Last year, I set a goal of 20,000 sq. in. of charity quilts. I had the summer off, quilted like crazy, and have finished almost double that! However, rather than setting the bar too high to achieve, I will set it at 25,000 sq. in. for this year. With this goal, I can make various sized quilts for different groups--like a queen-size for equilter.com's response to Hurricane Sandy. My UFO pile is greatly reduced. I have held to the resolution I set three years ago to reduce that pile and not to add to it. I also have not bought fabric in 3 years except for backing (when I'm too lazy to piece it) and for special quilts, like a friend's wedding quilt.

I am happy to say I currently don't have any UFO's ~ just one WIP which (now that the holidays are over) I need to get motivated in continuing... it is a tumbling block for my youngest son who will graduate college May 11th... so that will be my first goal for 2013!

I have never participated in a BOM but think that is a great idea as it should also cover the "learn a new technique" goal as well...

I took a class on a long arm machine which my LQS rents out (as long as you've taken the class) so I plan to visit Lenni (APQS) at least once a month to keep my FMQ skills up. I also want to practice on my Janome as I enjoy FMQ smaller projects at home.

and... I need have a few curtain projects that I need complete

A big thanks to you board members for ideas and motivation!

I'd like to commit to quilting/piecing at least two hours a week. I know for many of you, you'll laugh...but this past year has been hell. I work full time, have a family, have pets, ride my horse competitively, so that means riding 5-6days/7 and my dad had not been well. I lost him on 12/5. So rather than make clearly defined "i will make this, or learn this", i'd like to committ to doing some thing related to quilting two hours/week.

Betsey

First, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad.
I like your goal a lot -seems realistic to me. I work full time as well. Good luck!
