I have a case of machine envy now

Jingle 08-16-2010 03:54 PM

Beautiful and I am so happy for you. Have fun using it, should probably oil real good and grease it also if it comes with grease. Probably been a while since it was oiled.

bucky383 08-16-2010 04:19 PM

Thanks so much for everyone's good wishes and info.I did oil every place shown in manual, and put motor lube stuff in where indicated. I think I need a new belt, it is cracked, and flaking when I run machine. Also can't get the lightbulb to lock in.But other than that she seems to run great, so quiet.I will be checking the Vintage Machine section, I think I saw someone here sells parts. So many helpful quilters on this Forum!

raptureready 08-16-2010 04:26 PM

I'm as excited (all most) as if I'd gotten it! I'm so happy for you. A sewing room just isn't totally complete without a Featherweight. I have a black one and thought my room was complete but now it looks like I'm going to have to search for at least one other color.

Shemjo 08-16-2010 04:33 PM

damaquilts 08-17-2010 03:22 AM

What a lucky find. Obviously this one was suppose to be yours. It waited for you

anicra 08-17-2010 04:11 AM

Wow!!! What a find. Good for you and lots of great sewing with it.

LindaR 08-17-2010 05:08 AM

I've heard dryer sheets work too, close the cover for awhile....I just love it...book isn't even creased LOL

quilterguy27 08-17-2010 05:24 AM

As for the musty smell, I've heard many people say they just set it outside in the sun for several hours and that did the trick. If it's really bad, you might have to do it for a few days. Someone mentioned oder eaters for shoes, this also works. I've not tried the dryer sheets, but I don't see why this wouldn't work.

rustqlts 08-17-2010 05:27 AM

Omigosh--that is fantastic! People would pay more than $45 for just the accessories. I have a 1938 model, 'Miss Olivia', that I take to any workshop that needs only a straight stitch.

SNUGQUILT 08-17-2010 05:37 AM

Wow...great find!!!! When I got one of my featherweights the case smelled a bit musty as well. I put a bar of dove soap in it and shut it for a couple of days...really helped! Congratulastions!!!!

Nzm 08-17-2010 05:47 AM

so happy for you - I bought one similar at a rummage sale, but it needs a tune up which is going to cost a few bucks from what the dealer in AZ tells me - like close to $100.. but Im anxious to get it fixed too.. good luck with yours and enjoy

wvdek 08-17-2010 07:04 AM

OMGosh! Unbelieveable. Good thing the guy didn't know what it is worth. Has Billy seen it yet?
I am in the library using their puter and they actually looked at me goofy when I saw the picture and made an exclamation!
You scored bigtime, girl. Nice job.
Oh, if you need someone to will it to, I will be happy to PM you my name and addy.

littlehud 08-17-2010 07:13 AM

Judy Burnett 08-17-2010 08:29 AM

I am so happy that your baby was there waiting for you. I have a few old old Singers and a Featherweight and they are the best. I just recently figured out how to use the wonderful RUFFLER..... I see from the picture you have one....it is the best when you have a little girl to sew for....try it out. If you don't have the book email me and I will tell you how I use mine.....good luck and enjoy

Jerudy 08-17-2010 08:51 AM

Beautiful machine.....add my name to the green list.

jenna p in ga 08-17-2010 09:22 AM

mshawii 08-17-2010 09:25 AM

congratulations on a good buy. be sure to give her some oil before you sew. she might be thirsty from sitting so long. in the back of the book there is a place that tells you where to put the oil. there are a lot of places, so be patient while you do this,. also lay her on her back and unscrew the big nut on the bottom. this will expose the big cog. if the grease is dark, and not transparent, it is best to take her in and have that grease removed and new put on it. if you have a talented mechanic, he may know how to use a brush and solvent, and remove the grease, and then apply new grease. it isn't hard to do. i have a metal handled brush, and i put a cloth down to absorb the runoff, and then i let it air dry for an hour, after wiping it down, then reapply the grease generously. hand crank it for a few turns before you run it. hope this hepls.

Doreen 08-17-2010 09:36 AM

Wow, you ar sooooooo lucky!

Enjoy!

Deenie 08-17-2010 10:04 AM

It you put some bounce sheets in your case that will help, i would also let it sit out in the sun for a while. I keep the bounce sheets in my case all the time
