my sis in law just stopped by. she thinks she remembers our aunt working on this when sil was about 10! i had no idea it was that old. she thinks our aunt intended to finish it for my nephew when he was born... ah, the best laid plans... we are still trying to work out who is the best recipient. my sil suggested that it be a wall hanging... had not thought of that... probably a better idea?

it does need ironing and it won't hurt it to remove those stitches. have fun!

I also think this would make a lovely wall hanging, and the polyester bat she used will add to how nicely it will hang.
Thanks for sharing - being only about 10 years old, she did an awesome job - knowing how great your work is, I'm certain this will be a real beauty - would like to see when you have finished this wonderful heritage piece.

I think I would start by smoothing out the backing as much as possible. Dampen it and block it? Steam press it on polyester setting? It looks like there is enough backing material to do a test before doing anything to the main part of the quilt.

Maybe she planned to wrap the blue backing to the front to finish it?

I like the fabrics she chose.
