Almost started binding
I do not like to bind. I mean, I dislike binding very much. I have stated that I have 9 quilts that I need to bind. That's how much I dislike binding.
Well, I finally cut out all the 2 1/2" strips, sewed them together and today I ironed them in half. Yes, I iron them in half still. Well, I had time left, so I sat down at my sewing machine with my quilt and binding and my machine was turned on and I had the binding laying right next to the edge of the quilt and was just ready to start sewing it and the phone rang. My daughter was walking home from work and wanted to talk on her walk home. After 1/2 hours, I got up and started back in the sewing room and the phone rang again. This time it was my husband saying he was in town, home from work. Well, time for dinner. I came sooooooo close to sewing the binding on my quilt today. I have been battling doing the binding for 2 months and haven't had the desire to do it until today and then right when I was ready, I was stopped. So, let's see if tomorrow I will get the chance to actually sew the binding on my quilt. I'm just telling myself I only have to bind one quilt and then I can sew something. Before I said I couldn't do anything else but bind all 9 quilts and I haven't sewn in forever. I'll let you know if I get a chance and the ambition to sew the binding on tomorrow. I hope I have the desire still tomorrow. |
You sound like me before I was led to Sharon Schambers glue method. I cant say it is faster but sure is easier to handle and great results. You can see her videos on youtube

You got your binding pressed. That's progress. I'll bet you get started sewing it on tomorrow. Best wishes! Remember that once you get the binding on that quilt you can work on something fun. Just think about how beautiful your finished quilt will look with your binding. You can do it!

jcrow...I took the time to watch Sharon Schambers Elmers school glue method..I just finished a baby quilt using this method of binding...I love the control you have with starched bindings, the glue, etc. I did have to watch sewing the ending method a few times to get it, but it turned out great...got out a tv tray in front of the computer, and had the binding facing the same way as the video...OK I'm fairly new at all this..:)I used glue along the seam on the back, turned the binding and sewed in the ditch from the front...My miters were beautiful. The only thing I'd do differently is really press that binding on the front. She suggests pressing from the back...I hope you take a look at it and see what you think....

Too bad you are so far away. We could swap unfinished projects and do the part the other one doesn't enjoy. LOL
I don't like to sew blocks together. I have a Civil War quilt that the blocks ended up different sizes. They are large blocks and I enjoyed making them but when I started joining sashing and corner blocks, they didn't match up. This was a quilt that I decided to make extra blocks after I had put away the original templates. The end result was that the extras were a bit larger. I have put this aside to complete another quilt and now will have to pick this up and rip out some seams and probably trim down some of the larger blocks so they are all the same size. I learned a lesson here, though. The ones I am joining now have been measured and remeasured so that the seams meet up. My favorite part of quilting is making the blocks and then doing the hand quilting. Brenda in Alabama |
thanks for seeing the funny, AuntP ;-)
jcrow, one day you will look back and wonder why this was ever a problem. I just know it. i do. |
Binding is one of my favorite things to do, just keep sewing until it is all on. I don't pin except for the 1/4 mark at the corners. Then the relaxing part of hand sewing it down. Binding to me means the quilt will be finished.
