You shouldn't feel guilty for saying no. She should feel guilty for being rude and mean to you but I bet she doesn't. People like that prey on people who have trouble saying no.

She was so far out of line I can't express how far! How much you paid for your machine is none of her business! You are getting pleasure fromit for your self....and you don't owe her a quilt! Tell her no and don't feel bad about it!

One lady said "you paid thousands of dollars for that machine and you can't make me a baby quilt for my great grandaughter?" You have nothing to feel guilty about. I don't like obligation sewing. My neighbor asked if I could 'just sew one straight line' for her- turns out she wanted a table runner, a bit more than one straight line (oh, could you do pointed ends). I did it, it wasn't perfect but looked okay (the place I decided to turn it wasn't the best, lesson learned), took me about an hour, her husband came by to pick it up, while he did say Thank You, I haven't heard a word from her! Pretty annoyed about that- how hard is it to facebook and say thanks? |
If you really do not want to then you are not mean at all. I do agree be careful friends want it for nothing! Put a price up front!

And my husband paid thousands of dollars for his pick-up truck. And no, he's not going to drive 90 minutes out of town (and back) to deliver a relative's or an acquaintance's ping pong table.

I wonder if she felt guilty for imposing on you? I think not, so I sure would not feel guilty for saying no to her. I would tell her it would be nice for her to learn to do it herself and it would mean a lot more as a gift for a family member if she made it herself. if she owned her own machine and had a hobby she would not have time to inflect herself on others.

I would offer to teach her to make her own. Then she would understand the cost time and effort it takes. Why are people so dang rude as to think that your time and talent is for sale? I also don't have the time for this. Most people don't realize just what it takes to make even a small quilt.
This person was very rude. I can't believe that she had such nerve. I wouldn't let her have my worst quilt I ever made. I am sorry if this sounds mean. But, I think she is mean not you. Oh please don't fret over her rudness any more. Misery loves company, but you don't have to fall into that trap. |
NoNoNoNoNoNoNo................................no guilt.

I am asked constantly by family .. They say "u r retired and have the time" ... "U make it look so easy" ... Etc. my response ... I will be more than happy to teach u... And this will quiet them ... Usually don't ask anymore .... Or I will try ur expertise for mine ... Then they realize how much "work" it is ....
