Mattie, I am also not a fan of batiks altho I am making a batik quilt for my dd. I tend to go more traditional quilting with small prints - and not necessarily cival war materials. and I just love bright colors on childrens's quilts what beautiful quilts we all make in all sorts of material? go quilters

DO not care for civil war or even the 1930's reproductions. little Calicos I have so out grown them.. The 1970 style is definately out as well. cutisy prints are a no, no, for me.
do not like strips, checks, or plaids, or large dots. Love the batiks. solids or prints that read like a solid. Love hand dyeing my own fabrics also. |
Our local little shop has retro fabric from the 30s and 40s- I love them and think I was born a few generations late.

Have never bought novelty fabric, ditto for CW repos....don't know why.Haven't bought solids since I 1st started quilting....20 yrs ago.
Love paisleys, tho not sure what to do with them & marbles for BG. White doesn't work for me......prefer cream & have all size flower prints. Love the really good Asians.I usually like some of most lines, even if I don't want to buy them.So...a little bit of most fabrics works for me. |
I only use white if I need to put applique on it . Some times it won't work and I use cream but most of the things I applique show up better on white. I still like the tone on tone white but if I do not have it or enough for the project I use plain white. I am not fond of oranges but some times for a border I use it to make the center POP.

I do a lot of scrappy & always have some yellow/gold in there. Some colors I'll use just to have a variety, but have never bought pink & almost no blue. That's prob because I have no blue in my house. It's funny...I like all quilts & admire the work in them.Applique is far beyond my talents.Ppl use fabrics & colors that might not appeal to me, but they look great in their quilts. They say tastes in fabrics change, just like taste in food.
