I've never seen or heard of such a thing. My washer looked like that when I finally decided to retire her after 22 years of faithful service. She still ran great except we had to move her to redo the walls in my laundry area and the outside came loose from the frame; it was all lopsided. It still worked but it sure was noisey; I decided that after 22 yrs; never broke down and she had went thru 2 dryers she deserved a break. I bought brand new front loaders; they are great. It is a good thing you weren't in the garage when it happened and that you had a warranty

Time for a new FRONT loader! They only use 9 gallons of water per wash as opposed to 50 gallons for top loaders! My water bill is less than half of what it used to be!

The machine was an LG top of the line and we did buy the same one. All of the sales people had never heard of it happening before. I think we just got a lemon. The company is been very cooperative. My DH was just washing sheets and the bed skirt.

It could be one of the mounts broke or the balance sensor blew, just a fluke. Just like a lot of things these days, there is a lot of plastic in the guts.

It is very low water use. We bought a top loader because they can't hold as much (we have a king size bed) and they don't agitate as well

Latest update: even the LG tech has never seen this happen and couldn't figure out what caused it.

Scary,....... maybe it was a mixture of chemicals to have caused the explosion.

Goodness! The reason should be found out by the manufacturer. It could happen to someone else and possible kill someone. Your insurance needs to know this too.

You don't have to have a front loader to save water. I have the new top loader that sets the water limit by weight of the load. I use to think there wasn't enough water to clean the clothes but there is no agitator. The clothes are swirled and reversed and shaken, My laundry is clean and I use less detergent. I don't have the height in my laundry room for the front loaders on the stands, cabinets are all across the wall above the washer and dryer.

oh no!! If that ever happened to me I'd be in deep trouble, my washer is in my kitchen. Holy smokes.

There were pieces all over the garage. Luckily, it is all covered by warranty and the mfr is going to refund our money - easier for them then replacing it. In fact, we went back to the store and the machine is on sale for $200 less than what we originally paid for it.

Very scary - thank heaven no one was hurt !!

Showed the sales people where we originally bought it and they were amazed. Our salesman wanted copies of the photos to put on Facebook. Plus my husband had to sent photos to the mfr as well as proof.

That's how this one works. The tech came and took pictures as well to send back t o the company.

Like I said, seems to be the one fluke machine.

So sorry to hear of this - and glad no one was hurt - I have never seen anything or heard of anything like this happening with a washer before.

I had my vacuum cleaner explode a few months back - had never heard of that happening ever before either; just glad I was behind it instead of in front of it... It scared my cat to the point I did not see her for a full day and then she peeked out at me from under the bed, as to say "All clear out there?" lol

I'm thinking poor workmanship when it was manufactured; almost scares a person to buy anything anymore...
