I used to thread crochet until I got tendonitis in my right shoulder after making a very large doily with sewing thread. Since then every time I do much crocheting at all that tendonitis comes back.

Thanks Flybriet but I was mistaken about the name. That's not the thread I was thinking of. It came in a skein and was loftier then regular cotton thread but not as thick as the Sugar N Spice cotton. It had a silky feel. I'll think of the name of it

I crochet better than I quilt. I give my doilies as gifts. I can't seem to find #30 size cotton thread anywhere tho. Can anyone help me find some?

No Miss Kathi, I've checked Annie's Attic, Herrschernerrs, Clothilde and a few others that USED to carry #30, I can find #10, but can no longer find #20 or #30,,I love crocheting doilies and chair doilies, and most of my patterns call for size #10 thank goodness,,,but I love doing filet crochet and the one I'm actually doing in size #10 calls for #30!,,lol but my Christian sisters at church like it just the way it is,,once I get a scanner/printer I'll put some pics of projects on here,,,ty again

I don't do much crocheting anymore, but have taught 4-h crocheting an knitting and now judge at County Fairs and State fair in Oregon. Love to see the beautiful work displayed, however am somewhat dismayed when round work does not lay flat and others not blocked. Sure do love that pattern though.

Wow, that's really pretty. I've always wanted to do something like this, but can't seem to get my tension right with thread. I can crochet with yarn fine, but never thread... :-( Please post pics when it's finished.

Nice pattern. I used to crochet a lot (my mother taught me when I was little), but quilting has me firmly in it's grip...so I haven't picked up a crochet hook for sometime, do make the odd coathanger cover but nothing serious.

I was in the Evil Empire (AKA Walmart) tonite and mine, a superstore, carries white Aunt Lydia 30 crochet thread. White is the only color in that weight (I assume its a weight) but at least they have the size you're looking for. On the other hand, bummed out by the way they downsized the home office/school supplies area when the store was upsized.

Yes I do. I have one I need to finish as a gift. It is a Chatalaine for my next door neighbor, kitty. It will have a needle case, pincushion, sissor pouch and a thimble bag when it is finished. It is a varigated green with a rich purple velvet that will show through from the back.

Hi BellaBoo: I started this pattern last nite. Ready to start the 9th round, but it doesn't seem to be laying flat, (seems too full). How is yours coming??

I am using knit cro-sheen and a 1.75 needle. Am thinking to redoing with a smaller needle, or starting with 20 stitches in first row which would be 10 motifs instead of 12. Let me know how yours is doing??

I love thread crochet! Haven't done any since the quilt bug got me tho! My favorites are Christmas ornaments. Must have made a zillion of the angels, along with the ones in various designs that you do over the multi-color balls. I used to have a book that had big standup angels (8-12 inches tall) but it was in the house when it burned, and haven't been able to find the book again to get another one.

I crochet doilies in the evening or early morning hours when my little Yorkie decides it's time to go out for a breath of fresh air (or snowy air) at 3 in the morning. I do what is called Magic Crochet. The patterns are not written, they are done in diagrams. Have done 5 doilies since 1/18/10. I have a project going for myself to do random doily giving to people who love handmade doilies. I send them one in the mail with warm wishes for the day. It is very comforting to surprise someone when they least expect it and make their day brighter.

I'm using size 10 crochet thread and a size 7 hook. I think any size thread and hook to fit the thread would be fine. I crochet very loose for a few circle rounds so your tension may be a little tight to cause it to bow in the middle. You can also add a chain stitch now and then if it seems to want to puff.

I do alot of crocheting too, but not with crochet thread. I have some crochet thread that I bought but never use yet. One of my older sister gave me some patterns for what they called pugdies to make with the thread, but I never got to them yet.

What are pudgies???

Pudgies are crocheted big body with arms and has wooden beads for their heads, but I haven't big able to find the size beads I need (1 3/4") at Wal-Mart where I lived. My pudgies patterns includes Santa and Mrs. Santa, snowman, elf, angel and turkey.

Had you thought about doing a crocheted head too? They aren't that hard to do. Just start with a center circle and add one more stitch to each 'side' each round...ie. 12 sc first round, 24 sc second round, 36/48/60 or however many rounds to get it as big around as you want, then do a few rounds without increasing then decrease back to where you started. You kind of have to play around with it to get the head shaped the way you want...really round, sorta oval, whatever...Have fun!

I learned to crochet with thread at 15 and love to do it. I even went so far as to crochet my DD wedding dress. It took 2 1/2 years, and I still kid her that she changed the man but kept the dress. I have also done bed dolls by Annie's Attic, and a tablecloth. But, my favorite is still doilies. Thank you for the pattern, I have not been able to crochet for some time, but with new pain machine will have to try it again.

Oh boy... you sound like me. I have made a gazillion d's and gave them all away. have you made flowers. they are just as addicitive...
so I quilt and crochet. I knit once in awhile just to keep my memory there. I wish i knew how to use this computer like I do crochet.
