Both are very pretty. Love the piping.

Cute quilt - you did it! The green piping on the binding is a nice touch :)

Thanks. I had planned on using the orange for the piping, but was not thinking and used my leftover fabric in another kids quilt. Luckily I had enough of the green to use. It's also the backing.

Thanks. It's my faux piped binding that I love to use (well, not "my", I got it from a tutorial online.) Here's the link if you're interested. It lets you machine stitch the binding down while hiding stitches. http://tlcstitches.blogspot.com/2010...-tutorial.html

Bummer--the tutorial has been removed because it was being published in a magazine, back in 2010.... Do you sew the binding to the back, then bring to front and topstitch?

Sorry about that - didn't realize she had removed the tutorial. I think the original post was dated 2010 - I last accessed the tutorial in late 2011 to show some friends, so she must have removed it in the last few months.

I got word of a baby shower for a co-worker the day before the event as i had been out on vacation for the two weeks previous when hey announced the shower date. I got off work at 4:30 from the job and went to part time job from 5-9pm getting home about 9:30 pm. I took two pieces of material---one was red, white and blue in nautical print--other was a plain blue, layered them with batting--quickly tie knotted it and did a back to front binding. The recipient thought I had slaved away for ages instead of probably two hours at most.

I'll tell you what I do under similar circumstances. If I don't have time to finish a quilt before a shower, I give the recepient a greeting card in which I promise them a quilt. That has worked I don't feel under as much pressure. If the shower is before the baby is born then I can wait til after he or she comes & include the birth date in the label that I always want to sew onto the back of the quilt. Just a suggestion.

well, aren't you johnny-on-the-spot! good going!
I'd keep one done up for such occasions, but I can't get caught up! :)
