I would definitely use multiple whites and blues. That can go a long way to many different pattern choices. Don't think in terms of two colors or two fabrics - think in terms of two colors but using light, medium and dark. Good Luck and enjoy the process. They will love it. You can even ask them, would you like gold, black or another added to the blue and white or Just shades of blue with white.

the other day I read a thread on this board asking about what quilt could be made for a wedding quilt, one of the posts was a blue and white quilt that was made of Jacob's ladder and Sarah's choice (these were the bride and groom's names) another suggestion was using 2 blocks with names of the states the b & g were born in.

I made an Ohio Star pattern with just blue and white. Just in case this might be something like you are looking for...here is the picture. It is my first traditional quilt, and I am happy with it. It isn't a bed size though. You would need more squares for that.

I also love 2 color quilts. The antique 2 color quilts are highly sought after. You can make just about anything- Ohio Star comes to mind but there are a lot more.
