Since it's soooo long as you state, why not throw it over the pillows when you make the bed and tuck it under your pillows like we did years ago before shams became so popular?? Also when folded back over your shoulders during chilly nights you'd be toasty.

It's a holiday weekend and the quilt police are out celebrating so take advantage of their absence and do whatever YOU think works best for YOU!!!

I have done that a number of times and the 'quilt police' still haven't caught me.........

I have made quilts with different size borders on the top and sides.

I have made the mistake of not making the quilt big enough. It covers the whole bed but if I had to do it over again I would have made it larger to lay over the sides more..now its my extra large lap quilt. It would be perfect for a twin size bed but the smallest I have is a queen.

I agree that wider side borders and narrower top and bottom borders are just fine. Finish it up, enjoy it, and move on to the next one!

If you know what bed you are using the quilt on, lay the top over the bed and figure out how much you want to add on each side to make it fit that bed, mattress thickness, etc. I like my double bed quilts to come down over the sides where I don't need a bed skirt and long enough to go over pillows. I use 90 x 108 as a typical double bed size to do this. But then, depending on the design I want to quilt in the borders, the amount of fabric I have, etc. that is adjusted. Size it to fit your bed is my suggestion.
