OMG I love this thread!! TOOO Funny.

We were married three years and I was pregnant with my second child. My husband was in the navy and came home for Christmas. I was due early March. He bought me a sheer sexy red bikini type nightie with matching "jacket" and gold lame slipper "boots" that came to the ankle, reminded me of space boots. I burst into tears...can anyone imagine why??? lol A few years later he bought me a 14 carat gold charm for my charm bracelet...A HORSESHOE that said "GOOD LUCK" AND a slicer dicer chopper thing that was on an infomercial on TV...AGAIN THE TEARS lol.

He has improved beyond words with gift purchases(I TELL him what I would like to have) and is a wonderful hubby. I am truly blessed.

my husband did that too I got a new Janome 11000 because the got a new four wheeler for our 41 st anniversary Love the machine and he loves the 4 Wheeler

You could thank him nicely (and mean it!) and then keep your old machine for a back-up. (mine has saved my sanity). or, you sit him down now and tell him that you would really love more fabric and the machine that you have now is what you want right now, and if he is insisting that he get you one, tell him what one you want and use your old machine as a trade-in.

I have to laugh at some of the things you all are saying your husbands bought for you. One year my husband told me he had a surprise for me and I was really going to love it. I thought, " a new sewing machine" or "a rocking chair" etc. He carried it into the house and showed me.

A brand new SCROLL SAW!!! I have yet to use it but he loves it.

(A short time later, he took me shopping.) we have been married for 39 years and he has learned to buy ME what He wants and then take me shopping!!!

my husband got me one and i hated it . the stitching is not good. tried everything i could think of to fix it. finial i took it back. he did get a hint a ouple of years ago--i had been saying that i wanted a featherweight!! and I be he got it for me for Christmas ! I just love it. i don't use it as much as i should, thou. See i have 4 machines. just 2 that i use regularly.

Several years back while I was having a heck of a time with my 25 year old Kenmore sewing machine, hubby told me to go price machines and the following weekend we would go get one.
Well I chose a Viking sewing machine on sale for $600. While the lady was telling me the features, hubby was walking around the store and "playing" with other machines and talking to the owner of the store. To make a long story short, I walked out of the store with a $6,000 sewing / embroidery machine. The owner said in all his many years of business he Never had a person come in for a $600 machine and walk out with such an expensive one in a matter of a few hours. :) :)
That was one day I'll always cherish.

This is a good thread. I don't have anyone to buy anything for me, but I DO get what I want-usually more fabric.

Tarbender, Thank you soooo much for sharing your story. It brought tears to my eyes. God certainly blessed you with your hubby and I am sure he felt that he was blessed to have you.

That's funny. My dh was actually listening when I said my serger must be worn out (won't hold the tension and smell like it is slowly cooking) he said I will buy you a new one for Christmas, I said let's take another look at mine (19 yrs) and see. I really want to just pick it out myself, but waiting til after the holidays, might be some really good sales! We will see!

Sometimes the gift doesn't have to be huge. The first C'mas my hubby and I had together, his children wanted to open one gift each on C'Mas Eve. My new SD picked one for me to open. She was SOOOOO disappointed when I unwrapped a "stick'!!!! She couldnt' understand why I was so thrilled with it. At the time, we lived in a house that had eaves perfect for hanging birdfeeders. I had about 4 or 5, and had to constantly refill them. They were just enough too high for me that I had to haul a ladder out of the house every time. My "stick" was a dowel with a hook on the end so I could reach them down without a ladder. A perfect gift. :) That stick has had many other uses over the years since.
