When there are irregularities in the processing, printing or dyeing of fabric, those items are sold on the secondary market. That is when chain stores such as Hancock, Walmart and JAF buy the fabrics.

I have aver heard this over the years and most recently on a facebook quilting page. I didn't believe that was true. IT IS NOT. I wrote Robert Kaufman Fabric to ask if chain store Kona is the same quality as LQS. The Customer Service Manager at Kaufman said that the quality was the same. The difference? Chain stores get 25 colors, LQS have over 200 from which to choose. She called this her biggest Urban legend!
