Oh, that could be an expensive mistake. I had to buy a new cord for my Janome and I was shocked how much it cost.

My husband was in a band years ago and we have adopted the "dummy check" system (that's the name the band dudes gave it) he used to use on the road. Before walking out of the room, each person takes a different area of the room/bathroom/suite whatever, and does a quick check for anything left behind. I'm happy to say that we've never forgotten anything in a hotel room because we consciously do a "dummy check" before we check out. We've also taught the kids to do a dummy check just before walking out the door too. There's no blame, and everyone ends up with their stuff. I find it easier than having to remember a checklist...

My hubby once left a digital camera & it was turned in. We send the maid a reward check!

i'm afraid i've done worse. my husband travelled a great deal for work and took a clock radio with him because he often stayed in rooms that didn't have them. he went to new orleans for a conference and i joined him a couple of days later. the last day he called me from the conference and asked me to go ahead and pack up, check out and put the bags on hold at the desk. naturally i did. we met for lunch and strolled the french quarter, and had an early evening flight. we picked up the bags and flew home. i started to unpack and my husband saw the clock radio and cracked up. it was the exact model we had, sitting right there on the bedside table! no, i didn't leave anything, i inadvertently 'stole' the radio. dh called the hotel and they said keep it, they had plenty and it wasn't worth the postage. i'm sure they laughed too! oh, yeah, the hotel was the hilton.

I read to the end of this post because I was going to mention offering a reward might motivate someone to return the cord. I put a man's shaving kit bag or cheap lap top case with my machine so the cordor what item I bring goes in there and when I see the bag I think about what goes in the bag.
Once DH and I put son into the car and drove away without the brand new carriage. Both of us thought the other had put the carriage in. At least one of us remembered the child:)
A few weeks ago we left a tote on the curb with my ipad and jewelry and did not notice until we were an hours ride away. thought it would be gone due to middle school getting dismissed and the area where we left it but a lady and her son found it and called because my phone number was on the checks also in the bag and the money was all there. I gave him a hug and a good reward. I had promised candles and prayed to St. Anthony and St. Jude which may have done the trick? Hope you get it back too.

It's comforting to know that there are honest people and honest companies that do the right thing.

There ARE honest people in this world. I left my purse behind at a Wendy's. Didn't notice it until I arrived at home. I gave them a call and they said that the worker who was cleaning the dining room turned it in. They had it waiting for me behind the counter. When I arrived to get it, the manager went to the back and came back saying that they had put it in the safe until I claimed it. I was so impressed!!And no, there was nothing missing from the purse.

Depends on the motel that you stayed in. I know some people in the industry and they have told me of the many things that they just throw away because they are just too lazy to do anything else.

Darn...I bet that is a a bit pricier and harder to replace than the camera battery charger I think I left in Hawaii. :( So sorry.

I found a replacement for my Janome foot pedal on Allbrands.com ( my puppy chewed it) They're not cheap, but they're good quality.

Grannyh67 01-12-2013 05:34 PM

I'm sure you can replace the cord and the pedal at your local Janome Shop. I know I misplaced my cord for my Janome MC9000 and they had one at the store. I guess we need to tie these around out necks, lol.

Really sorry. Hope you find a cord soon!!!
